DESIGN EXPLORATION
The first design I found is part of the website for the clothing store H&M. The address is http://www.hm.com/us/dressingroom/LADIES. The designer of this interface faced the problem of finding a user friendly way for the online shopper to visually compare and contrast different items of clothing. The interface of this site is very user friendly and effective. It allows the user to click and drag different items of clothing over on top of a model to see what they would like if they were actually being worn. It allows the user to compare and contrast with different articles of clothing easily. It is as simple as dragging on and off the model. The user can also select different backgrounds and select different model types to try on the clothing. The designer of this site made it clean and easy to use. Somebody that visits this site isn't going to have to spend any time figuring out how to use it. It is designed in a way that makes it intuitive to the user. This interface also has a consistent visual and conceptual feel. As the user navigates from one section to the next the design is not disrupted in any way. The different articles of clothing are visually grouped together by putting them each in their own white box on the righthand side and this look is consistent throughout the site. The repetition of this creates unity and clarity for the user throughout the site. This site does a good job of inviting the user to play around and look at all the different options. I think the site is effective because the more time the user spends playing around with all the different clothing options the more likely they are to want to get out their credit card and buy something.
The second website I found is the site for Wrangler Europe (http://www.wrangler-europe.com/wrangler/). It is basically an interactive ad campaign for two different lines of Wrangler jeans. The designer of this site was faced with finding a way to market Wrangler clothing. They did this effectively through the use of interactive video along with with sound and imagery. The designer of this site did a very good job of creating a motivating feeling for the viewer. This site relies heavily on the viewers emotions...the “feel” of this site is just as important if not more important than what the site is actually about. It sends a message to the viewer that if you wear Wrangler jeans that you will be empowered and inspired. It does a good job of telling a story...and making the viewer want to keep going and watch more. After the viewer watches the videos they are most likely going to want to browse the clothing that is being sold.
