RESOURCES EXPLORATION

Flash is a complex animal to learn so we all will need help at some point . Designers can research through google and locate other sites that have tutorials on actionscripts and flash. Layersmagazine is one that i liked http://layersmagazine.com/category/flash, because the site has a large library of tutorials and tips on flash as well as the whole creative suite. Adobe http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flash/cs/using/index.html also has a large knowledge base on flash since they are the creator of the program so your bound to get a great wealth of information there as well. Pelfusion http://pelfusion.com/tutorials/the-most-useful-flash-tutorial-resources/ was an awesome site that gave a list of other awesome sites for tutorial references . They provide links like Flashfridge.com that has a lot of different design related tutorials as well and a section with 3D animation,Actionscript, Animation, Banners, Buttons, Drawing, Navigation, Sounds and Audio, Special FX, Text effects as well . Sitepoint http://blogs.sitepoint.com/category/tech/flash/ has one of the most extensive and deep library on flash and flash animation. The site offers books, articles, forums , kits, videos and a marketplace as well as references .Brainbell.com http://www.brainbell.com/tutorials/Flash/ is a site that offers tutorials on a flash including dad integration, writing script, adding interactivity and the list goes on . The site also offers free It training as well .

NEW MEDIA EXPLORATION-Technology

Google Tv has revolutionised the way we watch tv and use the internet in a radical way . We can now watch tv and surf the net with Google Tv on a full web browser with our wifi . If you want to go on Youtube and watch you favorite show at the same time you can , all on the same screen .The level of user interactivity has been raised and now we as the end users can enjoy this new era technology. As stated from the report of Will Richmond "Google is contemplating an entirely novel strategy for its set-top box, seeking to insert it alongside the existing MVPD's (multichannel video programming distributors' ("MVPDs" like cable, satellite or telco) ) set-top box by daisy chaining them together via HDMI connections. In other words, the MVPD's set-top's HDMI output would be connected to the Google TV set-top's HDMI input, and then its HDMI output would be connected to the TV. The authorized TV channels would still be delivered, but Google TV would collect data from the MVPD's set-top and introduce an entirely new UI for users to control their TV experience, to include searching and browsing channels. It would also add a host of new interactive web-type capabilities around the content. "

My belief is that Google's position in this chain of technology means that they in effect are gaining all of the information benefits of the cable companies that also serve as ISPs. For households that use cable for TV and DSL for Internet access, Google will the upperhand in collecting our data information than any other cable company or the telco. This could be the final straw for some MVPDs to see the inevitability of an impending paradigm-shift. Google's man-in-the-middle play as a tremendous threat and disruption to the incumbents, and worse, could make them irrelevant over time should Google desire to provide additional competing services to households, where in effect they could now easily eliminate the carriers from the end-customer. As far as privacy all of our information is getting streamed to Google which is link to other federal agencies . Google has made it where they are now a dominate force in our technology and everyday lives , from television to even our android cell phones.

The Logitech Revue which is another to distributor of technology, has a wireless display containing Google chrome browser, you click TV objects and have the related web page display on the wireless display. The wireless display also contains the EPG. The system provides a new advertising model that takes advantage of the environment that provides both the 2 foot and the 10 foot experience. It’s smart and resolves convergence once and for all. This is the mainstream PC/STB of the future and enables Google to control most TV advertising of the future as well as the platform. The Logitech Revue you don't have any kind of limited searching, you can search the internet and the TV guide AND the DVR. It has an option of picture in picture meaning that you can watch the show while searching the internet, which is great because the commercials are never interesting anyways.

Design Exploration (Jeanette Kangas)

The Eco Zoo
http://www.ecodazoo.com

The Eco Zoo is one of those websites that I could just sit and watch for hours. The sounds and colors along with its interactivity capabilities creates a somewhat hypnotic state. The site was constructed by 'McCann Erickson', a leading international agency network that has offices in 120 countries around the world. Obviously a multi million, if not billion dollar advertisement company, however this particular website, I feel is pretty cool.

The website is done using 3D and flash techniques. As the user scrolls up the tower which appears to be made out of cardboard, he or she can rotate, ascend and descend the tower by clicking and dragging the mouse. As the user encounters animals on there way up or down the tower, they can click on the image of the animal which brings them to a book with pop-up features that tells a story about the creature.

There are a total of five creatures in this zoo and as the user ascends up the tower the sounds of the birds, wind and waterfalls becomes more and more quite until finally at the top of the tower the user encounters a tree.

I feel that this site is very dynamic and engaging and features images, sounds and colors that unify the site into a unique whole.

Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (GSP) and Get the Glass (DeCaro) - Studio/Artist and Design Explorations

Studio/Artist and Design Explorations

First, I will talk about the award-winning, full-service integrated advertising agency of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (GSP), based in San Francisco.  In 2009, Adweek named Goodby, Silverstein & Partners the Agency of the Decade. That same year, Adweek also named Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein, the Agency Executives of the Decade.  Their client list includes: Got Milk?, Chevrolet, Hewlett-Packard, Frito-Lay, Sprint, Yahoo!, Nintendo, the National Basketball Association, Netflix, Adobe, and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, to name a few.

Here are a few of their client pages that I thought were phenomenal: Adobe CS5 - Web Production Premium

Another client page that I found exciting and entertaining was Comcast Labs - TV Rabbit.

One of the reasons I chose this site was because of an award-winning site that GSP designed for the California Milk Processor Board: Get the Glass. The Get the Glass site is so engaging, interactive and three-dimensional that I wanted to know the name of the agency that designed the site. When I went to GSP's site, I discovered that GSP's own site was interactive, engaging and multi-dimensional. GSP uses Flash, Javascript, audio and video to showcase their work and provide an engaging and interactive experience for a potential client.  GSP's work page is designed using a grid with smaller images of client work. When the viewer clicks on a photo, a pop-up window opens to a short synopsis of the project. If the viewer clicks a second time, the page goes to the client page where you get to view the video of the client's design/ad project. They also have sounds which can be turned off.  I viewed several client videos and was mesmerized by the quality of each project.

The second site I chose to explore is the award-winning site: Get the Glass, which was designed and developed by GSP for the California Milk Processor Board.

The Get The Glass site was designed and developed to encourage increased milk consumption by inviting visitors to participate in a comically-entertaining Flash-based game whose objective is to Get the Glass--of milk of course. It is an interactive, 3D animated game, designed in Flash to engage the viewer to participate and play. There are several facets of the game, all of which involve the members of the Adachi family, who are in hot pursuit of a large glass of milk.

Design Exploration

American airline site is one good example of flash design site. They use flash to make their site more interactive for their customers and it’s better to the customers than just reading the contents in the site. I liked the navigation button located at the top of this site. Each navigation button brings you to another flash page that have other design inside and everything it’s a little different. I liked the design they choose because the audience don’t have to get board to see the site and feel like they want to use this airline easily. They made good movements to them, when you click the navigation button they circle around which I think was a good design. When you click a button all of the things start to fold to change the shape to the next page. Only one thing that I think is not good is the design it’s difficult to tell to the customers about their information easily because sometimes it’s difficult to find where I have to click to get the information that I need.

One more good design site is BioShock site. This site is for the playstation3 game software commercial. I like their way to design this page because it looks like I am playing a real game and the design match with this game software so I think it’s pretty cool. When you start to play around in this this site is like a game, they give you some items and when you click that, you can see more details about this game. I like this idea. It’s pretty nice way to give a good feeling of how scary this game is and how fun it will be to the customers and it’s real easy to show how interactive the game is. One thing that is bad about this site is that it’s too heavy to open this site because maybe it’s more like a video game.
