Design Exploration

You may have seen the Saab commercial, however, I found this website through thefwa.com. It is changeperspective.saab.com. I was attracted to this site because of the reoccurring ideas and uncluttered layout. The design of the site reflects the "efficiency" of the product. At first, the intro video begins, but there is also a link to skip to the 'desk.' The white background, spacious layout and piano music complements the site and reflects its simplicity.

The music is synced to rollovers and enhances the experience. Music gradually gets faster and more exciting as you progress, conveying a sense of hierarchy through the pages. The objects on the desk are balanced to each other in a informal, radial design. At the center is a looping animation of hands gesturing "imagination" (or what one does with their hands while they are thinking). Buttons are aligned at the top in the navigation bar. Subtle notes encourage the viewer to interact with each object laying on the desk, however, there are easy access buttons at the top left. This makes it easy to go back without getting lost.

The second website I was browsing through is dreamworks.com. The home page features the DreamWorks movies. At the bottom are six rollover menus, each containing video clips, sideshows, and movie synapses. It also includes links to shop through their library.

There are small consistent animations throughout the site. Under 'Studio' - 'A Day in the Life' are videos that change with what the viewer rolls over. You can click on the videos to experience how they make their movies. The videos open into their own dragable player with buttons to more, buy now, close, etc. The player can also be moved around the stage as desired. The site is not too complicated and keeps their viewers interested with fun games and information on upcoming movies.
